About TermsTooLong

Helping you understand the privacy and legal implications of the services you use every day.

Our Mission

To organize, analyze, and summarize Terms & Conditions at scale.

Most people never read Terms & Conditions. Modern Terms of Service often run to several thousand words, written in dense technical and legal language that’s difficult to interpret. Yet these documents determine how your data is handled, what rights you keep over your content, and how disputes are resolved.

TermsTooLong was created to make the important parts easier to navigate. The platform analyzes Terms and Privacy Policies using a consistent, transparent approach—so users can quickly understand the key points without reading the entire document.

The project currently covers more than one hundred services and will continue expanding toward thousands of analyzed services as the system grows.

How TermsTooLong Works

TermsTooLong processes dense legal documents and converts them into structured summaries and standardized evaluations. Each analysis follows a repeatable workflow designed to highlight how a service handles your data, rights, and user experience.

🤖 1. AI-Assisted Document Analysis

Terms of Service and Privacy Policies are processed using advanced large language models (LLMs) to identify important clauses, obligations, and risk areas. Multiple models are used to cross-reference findings and reduce biases, improving reliability across different industries and document styles.

📏 2. A Standard Scoring Framework

Every service is evaluated using the same rubric, covering:

  • How your data is collected, used, and shared
  • What rights you retain over your content
  • How easy the terms are to understand
  • What happens if you have a dispute

This ensures fair and consistent comparisons across all analyzed services.

🚩 3. Red Flags & Penalties

Certain clauses have a greater impact on user rights and apply heavier penalties—such as perpetual content licenses, waivers of legal recourse, strict arbitration requirements, or broad identity and publicity rights permissions.

🔍 4. Quality & Consistency Checks

AI performs the main analysis, but additional checks help detect inconsistencies, verify major findings, and reduce misinterpretations. The human-in-the-loop component is used for oversight rather than re-evaluating every document manually.

🔄 5. Always Improving

Terms and privacy policies change frequently, and our analyses evolve with them. Documents are periodically re-checked when updates occur or when new issues are identified, ensuring summaries remain current over time.
